Andrea Wilkerson has been recognized by University of Michigan’s Division of Student Life with a Values in Action Award. Wilkerson received the award for the learning and innovation category, one of six rooted directly in the division’s values. It recognizes someone who is committed to “the learning and development of everyone in our community” and invests in improvements that advance MESA’s and Student Life’s work.

“It's a joy working with Andrea,” said Krishna Han, MESA’s associate director. “One of the things that Andrea does so well is her way of working with our Native American students; the way she centers our student's growth and development, the way she makes them feel affirmed and seen, all come from a place of care in her heart, and also in the commitment and understanding the importance of our work.”

Andrea Wilkerson is the assistant director of Native American student enrichment and belonging in MESA and the advisor for the Native American Student Association. Part of Aamjiwnaang First Nation Chippewa of Sarnia, Andrea has spent a number of years in the non-profit environment supporting the fight to end homelessness in Washtenaw County and developing programming/volunteering opportunities to support families impacted by chronic homelessness. She enjoys spending time with family at the hockey rink and singing traditional songs within intertribal community spaces. Andrea joined MESA as a program manager in 2019 and was promoted into the office’s leadership in 2023.
