MESA shares year in review for 2023-24

The Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) is proud to share highlights from our 2023-2024 annual report, showcasing the significant impact and progress we have made amid challenging national and campus climates.

"I would like to extend my gratitude to all who have contributed to these phenomenal achievements in MESA and invite you all to read through the comprehensive details outlined in our report," said Dr. Nadia Bazzy, MESA's director. "We hope to see you in our office space and always welcome connecting."

Achievements and milestones:

  • Welcoming new students: Our dynamic welcome programs empowered 239 incoming and transferring students, creating a foundation for the next steps of their college journey.
  • Engaging educational events: 111 events across five heritage months—with 52 coordinated and sponsored by MESA—attracted approximately 4,000 participants.
  • Grants fueling student leadership: We awarded 104 grants, facilitating events that garnered a combined attendance of 13,359 participants.
  • Notable conferences: We successfully hosted the first in-person Midwest Asian American Student Union (MAASU) Conference post-pandemic, welcoming students from 26 institutions. Additionally, the Oceanic Student Association held its first-ever conference on campus.
  • Advancing equity: Andrea Wilkerson was appointed as the assistant director of Native American student enrichment and belonging, a new role focused on enhancing the Native student experience and strengthening connections with Student Life partners for a more robust campus experience.
