Black History Month 2017 Calendar. Info in article.

"Negro Week" started in 1926 to celebrate the achievements and history of people of African descent. It was created by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a historian and founder of the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History. What began as an idea to include black experiences in the history books, quickly caught on as week-long celebrations in towns and cities across the country. Fifty years later, the Association was successful in extending the week to a month. Now, Black History Month stands as a widely recognized celebration of the history, culture, and diaspora of African and Black Americans.
