"Shades of Experience" - 2013 Black History Month Calendar of Events

In honor of Black History Month (BHM) 2013, MESA/Trotter’s BHM Committee awarded grants to student organizations that planned programs aligned with our mission to educate the University of Michigan community about African-American heritage, promote inclusion and connections across cultures, and enhance social and leadership development among student participants.

The 2013 “Shades of Experience” reflects this mission by celebrating the rich diversity within the African diaspora and challenging the notion of a singular Black experience.   The calendar features photographs submitted by U-M students and staff that self-identify with Black/African American heritage.  The 2013 BHM calendar also highlights multiple events from LS&A’s Race Theme Semester programming.  More information about the Understanding Race Project can be found at www.lsa.umich.edu/themesemester.
