If you’re anything like I was when I was graduating from college, you are no doubt trying to decide what you will do next year, or even for the next 5 years. Consider a job with U.S. PIRG. www.uspirg.org/jobs
The one thing I did know coming out of college was that I wanted my work to contribute to solving problems in our society. A year after graduating, I realized that I wanted to return to my college experience as a student activist, when I worked on campaigns for voter registration, stronger emissions standards for cars, and improved public transportation. That work all inspired me to engage my fellow citizens in the democratic process, and that’s what I spend all my time doing now as a PIRG fellow in Wisconsin. I’ve engaged farmers on reforming our nation’s broken farm subsidy programs, reached out to small business owners to call for election transparency, and I’m still working to promote strong public transportation and a return to limits on election spending by overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling. To do all this I meet with elected officials, work with other non-profits and advocacy groups, coordinate citizen outreach, and hold press conferences and work with the media to generate coverage of these important issues.
With U.S. PIRG, you can work full time to take on and solve the problems our country faces; from advocating for policies that will protect consumers from big bank and credit card rip-offs, to educating citizens about energy efficiency and health care, and increasing participation in democracy.
U.S. PIRG is a federation of state-based public interest advocacy groups. And working together we have a much greater opportunity to make a difference. We have a 40-year track record of organizing on these issues, and, we’re hiring graduating seniors to jump right in and make a critical impact in our fellowship program.
